English Composition CLEP Test Description
The English Composition CLEP test covers all the information that is taught in a semester college course on writing composition. It will not cover all the topics learned and you will not be tested on the vocabulary terms used in composition such as verbs, propositions, etc. However, you will be required to know what is and what is not grammatically correct.

This test is offered in two different formats. One format requires an essay, the other does not. When you take the essay, the time will be broken up into two halves. You will have 45 minutes to answer 50 questions and then will have the remaining 45 minutes to write the essay. The essay is still done via paper and pencil so you will not find out your score immediately following the test.

If you do not take the essay format, you will have 90 minutes to answer 90 questions. As always, they will include some pretest questions which are not scored and will not effect your grade.

You will need to be able to improve sentences, restructure sentences, and identify sentence errors. You will need to be able to recognize diction, main ideas, logic of an argument, creating a variety of sentences, style, tone, language, voice, parrellism, dangling modifiers, etc.
